Darkness to light-Stewards of Children
Interested in raising awareness of child abuse? Want to know how to prevent, recognize, and react to child abuse? Do you work with youth and want to keep them safe? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider attending or hosting a Darkness to Light presentation.
The goal of this presentation is to educate our community’s leaders and adults on the issue of child abuse, especially sexual abuse. The presentation includes materials that teach participants about healthy youth development, including normal behaviors and sexual maturity. Warning signs of abuse are also presented to the group so that mandated child abuse reporters know what to look for and when to make a report to the Department of Human Services and/or your local law enforcement agency. Together, we can be responsible for the protection and healthy futures of children in our communities.

Not a Number is an interactive child trafficking and exploitation prevention curriculum designed to provide youth with information and skills in a manner that inspires them to make safe choices. Youth learn to identify and utilize healthy support systems that may decrease their vulnerabilities.

NaTausha has come to our school for the past 2 years to teach our first-graders the body safety curriculum, and she was phenomenal. The kids really took to NaTausha as she was very engaging and presented the material at a level that made sense to the children. What I appreciated most was how NaTausha took a very serious topic and presented it in a way that was simple and not too difficult for young minds to understand. This type of curriculum is so essential in the classroom, so our children have the words to articulate what is happening when someone is crossing their boundaries and understand that they have the right to be safe. Her instruction has empowered them to speak up and seek help when they need it most.

The Body Safety Education program is beneficial for our first graders at MES because it teaches them important body- safety skills in a way that is simple, age- appropriate, and easy to understand. Students learn about personal boundaries, safe and unsafe touches, how to recognize uncomfortable situations, and the importance of telling a trusted adult when something doesn’t feel right. These lessons help give your children the confidence and knowledge they need to protect themselves and speak up.

We have been fortunate to bring the Body Safety Program to our Akron Elementary students for the past four years. Natausha Ray does an incredible job presenting this important and sensitive topic in a way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and empowering for children. The program provides students with valuable knowledge and practical tools to help them understand personal boundaries, recognize unsafe situations, and know that they have trusted adults they can turn to for help. We believe Body Safety is an important part of keeping our students safe, confident, and informed, which is why we have made it a part of our annual school schedule. We are proud to offer this valuable program to our first-grade students each year.
